Frequently Asked Questions

What is Psychotherapy?

As per the definition set out by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario:
“Psychotherapy occurs when the Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning. Individuals usually seek psychotherapy when they have thoughts, feelings, moods and behaviours that are adversely affecting their day-to-day lives, relationships and the ability to enjoy life.”

Who can benefit?

There are a lot of misconceptions around the idea of psychotherapy. Many believe that only those with severe mental health challenges should seek the support of a therapist. Instead, almost anyone can benefit from the support and guidance that a psychotherapist has to offer. Not only do sessions serve as an avenue for self-reflection in a compassionate setting but it also can provide new insight as to how to achieve greater well-being and deep fulfillment in one’s life.

What Psychotherapeutic & Counselling approach is used?

My psychotherapeutic & counselling approach is on the leading edge and utilizes evidence-based innovative strategies to help you implement positive changes in your life. It builds upon conventional methods by integrating all parts of the self- mind, body and spirit. This means that in addition to talk-based therapy, experiential work will also show up in sessions. An example of such modalities include body psychotherapy, energy transfer and guided visualization.

What can I expect in a session?

In your first session we will work together to complete a comprehensive intake assessment. This will help me better understand your story and the key reasons you are seeking therapy at this time in your life. I will help you to identify your goals for therapy throughout the time that we work together. Ongoing sessions will be client-centered, promoting self-discovery and self-awareness. All sessions will be 1 hour and include a combination of talk-therapy and experiential work.
